This year the organizing team welcomes runners to the baroque city of Olomouc once again for a summery evening run. Volkswagen Olomouc Half Marathon, that will take place on June 23 and is a part of the RunCzech.com running circuit, gives you besides the sport activities also the perfect opportunity to visit numerous churches, the unique astronomical clock and one of the UNESCO sites that the city is famed for.

As there is already a number of Polish runners registered for the race we have chosen one of them - Mrs. Ewa Wolny from Bielsko-Biała - and decided to ask her few question:

1) You are going to take part in Volkswagen Olomouc Half Marathon - Why did you choose this race and place?

First of all, I like long distance races. Currently, from an athletic point of view, I give preference to half-marathon tracks. The second reason is good accessibility to the location. I live near the Polish-Czech border and from Polsky Tesin, I am in Olomouc in approximately two hours, given good road conditions, therefore, it is no problem to return home the same day. When I found out about the RunCzech.com project online, and the race in Olomouc, I basically did not hesitate.

2) Do you expect fast time or is your motivation traveling?

A race for time is not important to me. The thing, which attracts me the most, is the possibility to combine running with discovering new places. The race runs through the center of the city and in locations, which according to the organizers are very interesting.

3) Have you ever been to Olomouc and is there anything special you want to visit during your stay? How much time are you going to spend here?

Yes, I have been to Olomouc once and I remember that the city left a very big impression on me. This is why I have decided to participate in the Olomouc Half Marathon. I am preparing to arrive before noon, and with the aid of the internet, plan to go sightseeing in Olomouc. Following the race and award ceremony, I plan to return home.

4) Do you take with you any friends or family members? And will they run or only support you?

I will arrive with my husband, who will capture my sport performance on camera. Possibly, four of our other friends will also come with us. Based on the pictures my husband and I took on our first visit to Olomouc, they like the city very much. It would for sure be nice to have my own fan group however; I can also rely on a very excited fan base from the locals.

5) Volkswagen Olomouc Half Marathon is part of new project RunCzech.com - will you take part also in any other race (Prague, Ústí nad Labem, České Budějovice)?

I was thinking about Prague, however, this year in May I will only run my first marathon (Silesia Marathon) and I am not sure yet, whether I will have enough energy. That is why I would prefer to run somewhere closer to home. For next year, I am seriously considering participating in the Hervis Prague Half Marathon (combined with sightseeing, therefore, it would be a long weekend). Other places, where marathons take place, (Ústí nad Labem, České Budějovice), are also interesting for me, however, it would be a longer journey from home. Maybe, one day I will combine it with a holiday in the Czech Republic, however, not this year.

6) Do you know what "Olomoucke tvaruzky" is?

I must admit, that this question aroused my curiosity. I will have to get more familiar with Olomouc, which I am now looking very much forward to already.
